Guitar Nerd video lesson, available now!!

Pete’s Guitar Nerd Lesson:

Back when I first released “Guitar Nerd” in May of 2011, if you ordered a CD copy within the first two weeks, I included a download code for a 70 minute video lesson. In the lesson I teach some of the things off the album… after discontinuing the lesson, I’ve received many requests from people interested in getting ahold of it.

So I’ve decided to make my “Guitar Nerd” video lesson available again! I’m making it real easy- I’m just going to do it via Paypal. If you’d like a copy of the lesson, just do this:

-Send $5.00 via paypal to petethorn@ymail.com
I will email you a download code for the lesson

If you’d like a CD copy of “Guitar Nerd” and a copy of the lesson:

-Send $20 via paypal to Petethorn@ymail.com and I’ll mail you a CD copy of the album, and email you a download code for the lesson

That’s it! Thanks for your interest and if you decide get it, I hope you find the lesson informative and useful! Rock on, and happy Holidays….

Thanks all!

“Guitar Nerd” made it to the “top albums” section on the CDbaby homepage! Thanks to all who bought my CD/lesson this week!!!

GUITAR NERD CD/Lesson is now available!

The Guitar Nerd CD/Lesson- How It Works:

If you’d like to order the CD/Lesson package, go to CDbaby.com between May 17 and May 30. Search for Pete Thorn to find my page, or this URL will take you directly to my page:

http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/petethorn

Between May 17 and May 30, You’ll see the CD priced at $18.97. If you order it, you will get a CD with a sticker attached to it with instructions on how to download a 70 minute video lesson!

In the lesson, I break down and teach a rippin solo from the song “Monster Movie” with lots of fast alternate picking, sweep picking, whammy bar stuff, etc. I also teach the entire clean solo instrumental piece “Promise”. The lesson is done in the same style as all my other youtube videos. there’s no tab or notation, it’s informal- but i go very slowly and explain each note, fingering, my picking patterns, etc. The lesson is a big file (about 850 MB) so it will take a little while to download.

On May 31, I’ll be discontinuing the lesson, and the CD price will change to $13.97. The Guitar Nerd digital download version will also be released on May 31, at CDbaby, Itunes, etc. Some digital sites take longer to add content than others, but Itunes should have it for sure by the 31st. It’ll be everywhere eventually (Amazon, Rhapsody, etc.)

NOTE: If you order the lesson, I ask you to please keep it to yourself (please don’t share it, or upload it to youtube, etc.). You paid the extra $5 for it, and I’d really like to keep it a special, low key, grass roots kind of thing, something special for the people who got in early on “Guitar Nerd”.

NOTE#2: The first 4 CD’s that ship won’t have the special sticker with download instructions for the lesson. If you are one of the 4 people that receive a CD with no sticker, send me an email to:
petethorn@ymail.com
I’ll email you instructions personally on how to download the lesson.

That’s it!

My sincere thanks to all of you that have expressed interest in this project, if you buy the album I really hope you dig it!! Rock on, rockers…

Creating a VIDEO LESSON! for “Guitar Nerd” special pre-release!

So I’ve decided that I’ll do a special pre-release of “Guitar Nerd” and for a few bucks more than just the CD alone, I’m including a video lesson, most likely 90 minutes, that’ll teach various cool bits and licks from the album! I’ll sign all the CD’s for the pre-release as well. This is going to be for the 1st 250 CD’s ordered.
Send me an email to: petethorn@ymail.com to get on the list, I’ve got 150 folks on there so far, another 100 to go!

thanks!

Pete

6 songs mixed…. 4 more to go!

OK I have 6 mixes done…. Bob Clearmountain did 3 and to say I’m pleased is a massive understatement. I’ve done 3 more, and so that leaves 4 to go. I’m gonna bear down and try and get one more done tonight!

I’ll tell ya, I’m really leaning towards just putting this out myself- seems like the way to do it. If anyone else has suggestions let me know, but I can’t see why I would do it any other way. I just don’t see the benefit. With the help of close friends, old ones and new ones, the hard work is already done (or will be soon)- writing, recording, producing, mixing, mastering. Unless a label is willing to put effort into promotion, I can’t see why I would go that way..? Maybe I’m missing something. As far as I can tell, I really need is an independent publicist, and from that point it’s just up to me to get artwork done, get CD’s done up for the guys who want a physical copy, and get the whole thing hooked up with CD Baby or something similar to handle getting it on Itunes, Amazon, etc and shipping CD’s. Yup…..

Great day mixing at Bob Clearmountain’s!

OK so Bob mixed “Big Mistake”, a crazy one from my new record. it sounds just great. He was able to make a really dynamic mix, certain things grab your ear here and there, sometimes it’s the bass, sometimes the drums, and the guitars.. you get the idea. HHe even did a 5.1 surround mix! that was a thrill to hear. He offered to do two more, so I’m super stoked about that…. I think I’ll basically have six songs mixed at that point, and should be able to get the rest finished up very soon. I leave for tour with Melissa on Feb. 16, so as long as I’m done by then, I’ll be a happy dude.

Bob’s home studio is pretty incredible, he’s got an old SSL 4000 in there and some nice outboard, but it’s the vibe that’s so great, the house is really beautiful and serene. And only 10 minutes from mine! Here’s a link to the studio website:

http://mixthis.com/

Add to all this that I’ve found a fantastic mastering guy, Ross Nyberg, who’s been also very helpful in providing mix suggestions.

I’m excited!
